LIFTING EQUIPMENT DEPARTMENT

Lifting Equipment is a type of machine, generally equipped with a hoist, wire ropes or chains, and sheaves, that can be used both to lift and lower materials and to move them horizontally. It is mainly used for lifting heavy things and transporting them to other places. It uses one or more simple machines to create mechanical advantage and thus move loads beyond the normal capability of a human. Cranes are commonly employed in the transport industry for the loading and unloading of freight, in the construction industry for the movement of materials and in the manufacturing industry for the assembling of heavy equipment.

Loads of opportunities abound in the Industries today for a well trained and skilled operator.

Its a three (3) months course in the Institute and six months in the industrial for hands on practical training comprising of two modules (Module A for three months on campus and Module B for six Months in the industry).

GENERAL COURSE CONTENT

Module A Comprises of the following courses:

• Crane Loading
• Wire Rope/Chains/Slings 
• Crane Communication 
• Crane Safety 
• Communication Skills 
• Survival Swimming 
• Workshop Technology 
• Technical Maths
• Equipment Operation

Module B:

At the end of the course students are made to undergo six (6) months compulsory Industrial Attachment (IT) to perfect the skill and art of crane operation. For the second Module.

Employment opportunities 

Graduates will be employed as Crane Operators or Supervisors or inspectors in oil and gas, construction, manufacturing and process industries within and outside Nigeria.

Entry Requirements

Open to applicants with the following:

WASC, ND, BSc./HND in Engineering and Sciences or its equivalent ,for the 9 months programme.

Must possess a current driving licence 

Nature of Assessment

Lifting Equipment Trainees are assessed by a combination of methods including:

- Practical skill examinations

- Written test/assignments

- Attitude Evaluation
